Lady Blackbird Woman

Lady Blackbird is on a roll. The husky-voiced songstress, paired with producer Chris Siegfried, has not made a single misstep since she released Black Acid Soul in the autumn of 2021. Furthermore, her oeuvre has expanded from the sparse jazz of her earlier releases to uptempo hit ‘Feel it Comin”, and now the more R&B-orientated ‘Woman’. ‘Nations rise and fall over a woman / Even kings will cry before a woman,’ she sings over a driving beat, the lyrics shifting to a more interpersonal focus at the chorus: ‘God damn / Those legs / I’ll do whatever she says…‘ Almost a response to James Brown’s ‘It’s a Man’s Man’s Man’s World’, ‘Woman’ is a ravishing cri de cÅ“ur of queer desire
