On 6th October, acid jazz collective D’Influence will be performing at Nell’s Jazz and Blues in West Kensington, London.
After an Instagram video of a band rehearsal in 2016 attracted a promoter’s attention, D’Influence emerged from an 18 year hiatus.
The group – comprised of vocalist Sarah Anne Webb, guitarist & keyboardist Ed Baden-Powell, keyboardist and MC Kwame Kwaten, and saxophonist Steve Marston – epitomised the acid jazz and street soul movement of 1990s Britain.
Signed to East West records for their critically acclaimed debut, Good 4 We (1992), the group released the club singles ‘Good Lover’ and ‘No Illusions’. Prayer 4 Unity followed in 1995 with the popular single ‘Midnite’. Their biggest commercial success came in 1997 with London, finally giving the band a single inside the UK top 40 – ‘Hypnotise’. They entered the UK Top 40 a year later with a cover of Michael Jackson’s ‘Rock With You’.
