New York based singer-songwriter Drea Pizziconi has written for the likes of Gregory Porter, Keyon Harrold and Common. Her latest single ‘Let Us Dance’ features rapper Maimouna Youssef and The Dap-Kings Horns.
A female empowerment anthem, ‘Let Us Dance’ was premiered at a gala for CAMFED (Campaign for Female Education) – a charity whose ambassadors include Pizziconi herself, Annie Lennox, model and activist Adwoa Aboah, and the Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle. All profits from the single will go to CAMFED.
Pizziconi explains: “Education is a basic human right and there is no better investment in our world’s future, than the investment in a girl’s education. But the barrier for women to reach our potential remains high. I wrote this song for all the girls out there who won’t give up and want to tell the world “Get ready…we’re coming.”
‘Let Us Dance’ is an ebullient celebration of female perseverance with silky strings, vibrant horns, and a melody full of punch and conviction. The lyrics are fantastic too. ‘Look at the face of change,’ Pizziconi sings with jazzy phrasing. ‘Let us reclaim the whole damn street!‘
