As part of the EFG London Jazz Festival, musical collective Postmodern Jukebox will be performing a headline show at the Southbank Centre.

Founded by Scott Bradlee in 2011, Postmodern Jukebox have achieved viral success due to their sophisticated reworkings of modern hit songs in vintage styles and genres. If you want to hear classic pop songs reimagined with true musical flair, this is a show to check out.

Britney Spears’ ‘Toxic’ as Vintage 1930s Torch Song – Sung by Melinda Doolittle

This juggernaut pop-dance hit is reimagined as a slow-burning torch song, drawing out the latent menace and sexual urgency within the lyric. Melinda Doolittle gives a paced, sultry delivery. Listen to the grit she adds at 4.12!

The White Stripes’ ‘Seven Nation Army’ as Vintage New Orleans Dirge – Sung by Haley Reinhart

Haley Reinhart, a regular PMJ collaborator, puts her noir stylings to exquisite use on this dirgey rendition of The White Stripes’ ‘Seven Nation Army’. Her bright, bouncy phrasing turns to a rumbling growl.

Beyonce’s ‘Halo’ in Vintage Motown Style – Sung by LaVance Colley

Beyonce’s brilliant ballad ‘Halo’ becomes more joyous with this Motown-flecked arrangement. The song bubbles towards its explosive climax where LaVance Colley unleashes his falsetto.
