Lenkie – ‘Waterfall’ (Review)

Originally from South Africa, Lenkie is a budding soul artist based in New York City. Her latest song ‘Waterfall’ is an ear-worm ditty, delivered with a poignancy and wistfulness that belies her 17 years of age.

‘The inspiration for “Waterfall” was unrequited love. Born out of a massive crush that could never work out, I instead took to daydreaming about the possibility of it all. “Waterfall” is a song outlining and detailing the parallel universe where we are together and intertwined, where there’s nothing beyond the feel of our bodies existing on the same plane. I think about “Waterfall” as the aftermath of [previous release] Flower Girls . We’ve left our void of a town and all the darkness with it, and now there’s nothing left to do except enjoy the limitless company of each other.’

I know it’s not love more infatuation,’ Lenkie sings, ‘…I don’t know much about happiness but this is the closest I have been.’ The tune is achingly melodic and we’ll be keeping our ears peeled for future releases.
