Donny Hathaway’s ‘Someday We’ll All Be Free’ rings with wistfulness and hope. Though written about Hathaway’s personal struggles, the song is often interpreted as an anthem encapsulating the struggles, hopes, and aspirations of Black America. British soul singer Tony Momrelle, whose voice has often been likened to Hathaway, delivers a heartfelt rendition here, supported by nimble guitar work. Though largely faithful to the original, Momrelle colours the song’s final stretch with his soulful adlibs and falsetto.
