Zenesoul – Brown Sugar (Review)

The emergent soul/R&B singer Zenesoul, hailing from Canada, releases her second EP. Titled Brown Sugar as a nod to her previous project Coffee, Zenesoul’s new EP counterposes the pained lyrics of its predecessor with notes of romantic optimism. As Zenesoul explains: “In a world filled with bitterness and heart break, ‘Brown Sugar’ is the sweet side of love. The ingredient that makes coffee more tolerable. Whether love is a fantasy or not, I’m on a journey to find out, and I am manifesting the type of love I want in my life, instead of drowning in my painful experiences”. She has great chemistry with Aaron Ridge on steamy romantic duet ‘Love and Be Loved’. Other highlights include her beguiling phrasing on ‘Witchu’ and the slow-burn hook of ‘That Love’.
