As the Christmas season is upon us, we thought we’d compile a list of the best concerts in the capital to check out this December!
1. Motown and More with Natalie Williams’ Soul Family @ Ronnie Scott’s – 2-18 December [TICKETS]
An annual fix which always sells out. The ever charismatic compere Natalie Williams will be joined by her usual troupe to perform an array of soulful classics.
2. A Soulful Christmas with Jordan Jackson @ Pizza Express Jazz Club (Soho) – 9 December [TICKETS]
Pizza Express in partnership with the Hampstead Jazz Club presents Jordan Jackson, an emergent talent from London but based in Copenhagen, Denmark. Unveiling her brand new song ‘Christmas Time’, expect soulful and jazzy arrangements in a style which previous reviewers have likened to an amalgamation of Corrine Bailey-Rae, Erykah Badu, and Amy Winehouse.
3. Jules Buckley’s Aretha at Christmas @ Royal Albert Hall – 10 December [TICKETS]
Harking back to his terrific 2022 Proms tribute to Aretha Franklin, Jules Buckley will be exploring the Christmas-themed selections from the Queen of Soul’s catalogue, joined again by premier vocalist Sheléa and Vula’s Chorale.
4. Mica Paris @ Jazz Cafe – 17 December [TICKETS]
A stalwart of British soul, Mica Paris will be performing both a matinee and an evening show at Camden’s iconic Jazz Cafe. First compared to Natalie Cole and Anita Baker when she emerged on the scene, Paris’ beautifully deep and raspy vocals are some of the finest to ever come out of the UK.
5. London Community Gospel Choir at Christmas @ Royal Albert Hall – 20 December [TICKETS]
Founded by Reverend Bazil Meade, the London Community Gospel Choir (LCGC) are a tour-de-force choir who have performed and recorded with the likes of Beverley Knight, Paul McCartney, and Madonna. For their regular Christmas gig at the Royal Albert Hall, they will render festive tunes with aplomb.
6. Lex Cameron @ 606 Club – 21 December [TICKETS]
He’s one of the UK’s most prolific soul musicians, having toured with Roachford, played with the likes of Shania Twain, Chaka Khan, and Chic, and taken on a long-term gig as Omar’s musical director. Equipped with slick falsetto vocals, Lex Cameron can front a show on his own terms, too. Check him out at Chelsea’s 606.
