BBC Radio 2 will be paying homage to one of the seminal folk albums of all time with a special concert.
Simon & Garfunkel’s Bridge Over Troubled Water become one of the best-selling albums of the 1970s and was ranked #51 in Rolling Stone magazine’s 500 Greatest Albums of Time. It also marked the folk rock duo’s last album, with the recording process characterised by creative and personal differences.
The album includes the folk rock ballad ‘The Boxer’ and, most famously, the hymn-like ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’. The latter has been covered numerous times, with Aretha Franklin delivering a gospel-steeped interpretation. Check out Simon & Garfunkel’s breathtaking live performance of the song at Central Park in the video below.
Taking place at The London Palladium, the concert will feature every track from the album, with new orchestrations from the BBC Concert Orchestra and an impressive line-up of performers from across the worlds of pop, folk, soul, and country. The line-up has been confirmed as follows:
Katie Melua
Cassidy Janson
Tony Momrelle
The Shires
