Christmas meets Coronavirus in ‘My Christmas Tree’, the latest single from ‘Black Bohemian’ Alex Parvenu.
Alex, a British musician of Nigerian background, released his Motowny debut single ‘It Wasn’t Me‘ back in 2018. The song, accompanied by its comic music video, narrated Parvenu’s attempts to evade the probes of his girlfriend’s pious father.
‘My Christmas Tree’ – the sonic successor to ‘It Wasn’t Me’ – is a slickly-produced pop-soul midtempo, boasting a classy string arrangement and great synergy between the lead and backing vocals. Alex sings about the festive season under the spectre of the current Coronavirus pandemic, wondering if he will be able to ‘kiss [his] baby under the mistletoe.’ But optimism, hope, and a real festive warmth ultimately prevails. ‘Rona you ain’t gonna ruin Christmas for me,‘ Alex sings.
Alex says: ‘Anyone who knows me personally knows that Christmas is my favourite time of year, and my family always do Christmases big. A lot of people have lost a loved one this year – including my family. There will be one less person at our Christmas family celebration this year, and I really wanted to a convey a message of hope with this song, that despite all that’s weighing us down, we are still here and with life, there is hope…’
