My H3art Says To You – Tracy Cruz (Review)

A sleek D’Angelo inspired ballad.

Inspired by D’Angelo, ‘My H3art Says To You’ is a 6-minute long ‘musical love apology letter’ in singer-songwriter Tracy Cruz’ own terms. ‘My H3art Says To You’ marks Cruz’ latest single release, following ‘Keep Our Soul Alive’ (reviewed here).

Furnished with neo-soul and jazz fusion stylings, it is clear where the inspiration comes from. The horns provide a brush of vintage to the arrangement, while Julian Hoover’s guitar provides a crispness and melancholy.

Cruz’ vocals are mapped out carefully and thoughtfully. The verses are tinged with wistful regret, her voice often evaporating at the end of each line. She cascades down the chorus and subsequent verses with melismatic precision. ‘I pray we keep holdin’ on / Another chance / Another day / I hope we will find a way’, she sings, longing for a second chance with a lover she has wronged.
