This narrative concert originated in Melbourne, Australia in 2013 and has for the last few years toured across Australia and New Zealand. This year marks its debut in the UK. With plenty of stops left to go – including Liverpool, Edinburgh, and Manchester – the tour will come to an end in the famed Cadogan Hall in West London. The House That Soul Built will be there to review the show.

The concert tells the story of the one of the most lauded and iconic R&B/soul vocalists of all time. Known for earthy, gritty voice, Etta James found success with Chess Records in the 1960s – recording classics such as ‘All I Could Do Was Cry’, ‘Someone’s Got A Hold On Me’, and, her signature song, ‘At Last’. However, while recording and touring, she grappled with a damaging heroin addiction and experienced long periods of isolation and depression. However, she ultimately persevered.

Performing James’ vast catalogue are Vika Bull and the Essential RnB Band. The press and public response so far from UK audiences has been overwhelmingly positive, and the promo video below suggests we are in for a good show!
