Beverley Knight Sings Stevie Wonder at the London Palladium (Preview)

BBC Radio 2’s Friday Night is Music Night – the world’s longest-running live orchestral radio show – will be celebrating the music of Stevie Wonder in November.

Broadcast live from the London Palladium, Wonder’s catalogue will be interpreted by the Queen of British Soul: Ms Beverley Knight.  Last year, The House That Soul Built reviewed her storming show at the Palladium. A few months ago, Ms Knight treated audiences to a special guest appearance at the New Power Generation concert at indigo at the O2.

Born in a gospel household, Knight found success as an R&B/soul artist in 1990s/2000s. In recent years she has made forays into theatre, having recently played Emmeline Pankhurst in the game-changing R&B/soul/hip-hop musical Sylvia at The Old Vic theatre. She never fails to deliver a fully committed, sensitively approached, and technically spectacular performance. Perhaps her finest interpretation is her exposed, spine-tingling rendering of the late George Michael’s ‘One More Try’ (embedded below), where each nuance and facet of her voice is on display.

Matching her voice with one of the finest music catalogues of all time can surely only lead to good things. Especially with a twenty-four piece orchestra behind her.

Friday Night is Music Night starring Beverley Knight at the London Palladium takes place on 22 November 2018. You can buy tickets here.
