Currently touring the UK as part of the musical Fame, British soul champion Mica Paris will be stopping by London for a special tribute to the First Lady of Song – Ms Ella Fitzgerald.
Raised in the church, Paris released her debut album So Good in 1988 on 4th & B’way Records, a US-subsidiary of Island Records. The album spawned singles such as ‘Breathe Life Into Me’, ‘Like Dreamers Do’, and her highest charted single to date ‘My One Temptation’ (#7 on the UK singles chart). She has also ventured into television and radio, presenting shows on the influence of African-American gospel and the life and times of the late Prince.
Last year, to celebrate the centenary of Ella Fitzgerald’s birth, Paris recorded ‘Imagine My Frustration’ and ‘Ev’ry Time We Say Goodbye’ for the EP Mica Sings Ella. She performed a five-date UK Valentine’s tour in February this year, delivering other interpretations from Fitzgerald’s esteemed songbook.
Listen below to her bluesy, heartfelt rendition of ‘Summertime’, an aria composed by George Gershwin for the opera Porgy & Bess, later recorded by Fitzgerald.
Mica Paris will be performing at the Islington Assembly Hall, London on 11th November 2018. You can buy tickets here.
