Danny Toeman – ‘Give It All Up (Mr Showtime)’

‘Give It Up All (Mr Showtime)’, the latest single from King of North London Soul Danny Toeman, is a love song – but not the conventional kind. In his interview with The House That Soul Built earlier this year, Toeman described the tune as his ‘love song to the audience.’

He explains in more detail: ‘Throughout my career, whether playing in basements or warehouses, bowling alleys or concert halls, and no matter how much doubt or turmoil I’m facing, the moment I step onto a stage I transform into ‘Mr. Showtime’, and give every ounce of myself to the people. Having this reciprocated with so much love and passion nourishes my soul and gives me strength. This song is a tribute to all the beautiful audiences I’ve had the privilege of playing to.’

After a theatrical, crooning intro, Toeman launches into a passionate mid-tempo with elegant strings, vintage horns, and his characteristically gruff vocals. He glides into his falsetto to close the track. Consistent with his last release – the sweet and doting ‘She’s Got Something About Her’ – Toeman has again showcased his ear for a timeless melody.
