Judith Hill’s latest single ‘Americana’ is a stomping funk groove that calls for women of colour in the US to challenge their oppressors.
“We are living in a time where deeply-rooted racism and xenophobia are being exposed,” states Hill, a woman of Japanese and African-American background. “In order to create a more inclusive society, we must first understand the struggles of the minority community. Americana is an aggressive emotional reaction and a cry for change.”
Marrying elements of cinematic Western music with Hill’s Prince-inspired brand of edgy funk, ‘Americana’ features rousing vocals. ‘I ain’t that radical I’m just stating the facts you know,’ Hill spits. The accompanying music video sees Hill playing a number of different characters, all of whom are ‘othered’ and criminalised for their identities.
“Americana” is the first single from Judith’s upcoming album “Baby, I’m Hollywood!” released by Regime Music Group on February 12th 2021
