Kasi, Stacy, and Tam are The Shindellas – a new girl group on the block with a promising 2021 on the horizon.
The brainchild of esteemed producers/musicians Claude Kelly and Chuck Harmony, who together form Louis York, The Shindellas are signed to the duo’s label and artist collective Weirdo Workshop. They released their debut EP Genesis in 2019.
In our recent interview, Louis York spoke giddily about The Shindellas and their potential. ‘In a world that’s so broken right now, you need to see powerful black women singing their behinds off, speaking their minds, being unified,’ Kelly said emphatically.
The Shindellas’ latest single ‘Money’, one assumes, is about the extortion and greed of those in the upper echelons of the music industry. ‘Tired of these snakes that make up lies to control / To get to your pockets they will snatch out your soul.‘
With churchy hand claps running throughout, ‘Money’ embraces a throwback sound but with an all-guns-blazing pop production that gives the piece a terrific forward momentum. It’s a heady sonic rush with synthy undercurrents and punchy brass, plus a couple of modulations thrown in for good measure. The trio’s big, belty voices impress – with the vocal horsepower and attitude comparable to the likes of En Vogue.
