‘Rising Up’ – Tony Momrelle

A soulful self-empowerment anthem with lively instrumentation and Momrelle’s buttery vocals.

Tony Momrelle is certainly one of UK soul’s most gifted voices. He has worked with the likes of Sade, Chaka Khan, Earth, Wind & Fire, Janet Jackson, and Whitney Houston, as well as being a member of pioneering jazz-funk group Incognito. He recently sold out two shows with his collaborators Reel People at South London music venue Hideaway, celebrating the release of Reel People’s cover album Retroflection. On the album, Momrelle delivers Bill Withers’ ‘Can We Pretend’ with gorgeous phrasing.

Momrelle’s latest single ‘Rising Up’, the debut release off his new record label Vibe45 Records, drips with the soulful, jazz-funk influences of his previous collaborators. In Momrelle’s own words, the song is about ‘shaking off the old and embracing the new, letting go of things, situations & even people that may hold you back. It’s a song for the soul, a song of self realisation.’ Percussion, looping synths, and brassy bursts begin this self-empowerment anthem. The track’s instrumentation becomes richer, leading to a gospel-flecked climax with Momrelle playing off the backing vocals. Momrelle navigates the melody with his characteristic finesse, landing effortless high tenor notes.

The full song is released on 1st March. Listen to a preview of ‘Rising Up’ below!
