Judith Hill – ‘Upside Down’ (Review)

After a great sophomore effort with Golden Child, Judith Hill – esteemed backing vocalist, protégé of the late Prince, and featured vocalist in the Oscar-winning film 20 Feet From Stardom – is back with a new single.

She tells us: “’Upside’ is a about looking on the bright side of life. Often times we can bogged down by negativity, but when we look on the upside, we find that there are so many amazing opportunities around us.”

Written by Hill in collaboration with Trend Dabbs and Danny Burke, ‘Upside’ is three-minutes of carefree funk. Hill’s scratchy vocals command the tune and she lets out a few screams near the end.

The music video (embedded below) was filmed in Bangkok and features a suave gentleman strutting to the song’s groove around the city. “It was definitely on my bucket list to go to Thailand, I had such a blast dancing on rooftops and in the colourful streets and alleyways of Bangkok, says Hill.

Groove comes naturally to Hill and this song is no exception.
