Before the Camera is the brainchild of Danny Short, an experienced songwriter and session musician who has supported Elton John and played in various West End musicals. This new collaborative project matches Short’s soulful writing with an array of different voices.

First single ‘I Remember When’, a catchy guitar-driven mid-tempo, featured the vocals of Sheila Atim, awarded Best Supporting Actress in a Musical at the 2018 Lawrence Olivier Awards for her star turn in the Bob Dylan musical Girl From the North Country. Short’s latest single ‘Since I Met You’ features West End star Tyrone Huntley, who previously starred in soulful musicals Memphis and Dreamgirls. Huntley’s portrayal of Judas in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar garnered him an Olivier Award nomination in 2017. About ‘Since I Met You,’ Short says:

I wrote this song as gift to my wife for out first wedding dance. The song reflects the time before I met my wife and how my life has changed.’

Like a worn-in pair of shoes, there is a comfort and familiarity to this soulful ballad. Huntley phrases the song with deft sensitivity and beautiful falsetto, communicating Short’s loneliness and reclusion, and the transformative role played by his wife.
