Rita Ray – ‘Love Ain’t The Same’ (Review)

Estonian singer Rita Ray previews her sophomore album with ‘Love Ain’t The Same’, an engaging jaunt into orchestral blue-eyed soul.

‘I feel that “Love Ain’t The Same” takes you on a certain type of a journey. It describes the emotions of a young woman’s growth and experience that are learnt the hard way. By being involved with the wrong person that’s not goodhearted and sincere, it makes the person question about love and willingness to share all of her ever again.’ she says.

The orchestral arrangement, scored by Ray herself, gives the piece a cinematic gravitas, while her crisp, cool voice relays the aftermath of a catastrophic relationship: ‘Your drugs are hardcore / You’re into your whore / I already know that she’s always on hold.’ The dramatic music video intersperses footage of Ray driving along the Estonian coast with a beautifully-shot performance at the Russian Cultural Centre.
