Lizzie Berchie - I Hope

Hailing from the London Borough of Newham, neo-soul artist Lizzie Berchie released her debut EP Under the Sun in July 2022. She deservedly attracted buzz from soul/R&B tastemakers like The Blues Project for her deft musicianship and lyrical and musical nods to her Ghanaian heritage.

Berchie trails her sophomore EP with single “I Hope”, which she likens in its energy to “Black love on a Sunday evening.” This sparse, pared back number sees Berchie explore the discomfort and vulnerability which comes with finding a seemingly perfect love. “Promise you’ll be with me / When the seasons change / I know we can’t predict it / Will we feel the same?” she questions. Her voice, with touches of slow, ringing vibrato, shines.

You can catch Lizzie at the following shows:

  • Saturday 13th May – Last Time Out Festival, Leeds
  • Tuesday 25th July – Hootananny Brixton, London (Jerome Thomas Support)
